As my 325i is apart at the moment I guess its a good time to replace the tierd rear speakers. I was chatting to a mate who also has an E30 and he fitted Alpine rear speakers with tweaters comming of the speakers, saying they were awesome but couldn't remember the model number.

What size will the rears take with NO modification to bodywork

What would you recommend, how much and where from?

Many thanks

Andy

Rears are the exact same size as the fronts, no mods = 5.25". Best bet would be to use the same as you have in the front to match the sound in front and rear, HTH :D
Wanted: Any old component speakers, complete or separate parts, let me know what you got :D

Many thanks :) They do match pretty well atm, all 4 are Pioneer's but have been in there since the car was about 3 years old :o:

The JBLs are more for SPL ie loud with lots of midbass and treble, the Infinities are aimed more toward quality rather than volume still, you wont go far wrong with either, Pioneers are my choice though :D

I am confident the fronts will  I have 6x9 JBL's in my 328i and the sound quality is OK but they are getting tierd after about 6-9 months use and not particularly hard use at that :x

Thanks

depends on where they are mounted and what they are made of. Older speakers had foam surrounds which deteriorate rapidly in sunlight (your 6x9s for example). Look for speakers with rubber surrounds and anything but paper cones (if anyone still uses them..) The issue with e30s is that the speakers in the rear are exposed to high sunlight levels whereas the fronts are well hidden. Any speakers you use, the rears will fade away sooner than fronts, HTH (again lol)
