Just looking for a little of advice on ICE for a Touring.
I will be looking to build in a false floor in the Touring so the ICE is out of sight, I live in a rather rough area!
Obviously I'll need cooling for the amp, but that's not a problem.
But what about subs and amp, as these will need to be small as I don't want to lose much space.
What about up front?
And not looking to spend loads either...
Jamie.

u can get a pair of CDT 8" components for around 200, give them 250wrms each in about 0.75 cubic ft box each and they will punch harder than most 10" subs each! then put the tweeters that come with them in the back somewhere directed towards the front
up front u could use the cdt shallow coaxils if you dont want to cut anything up front!
whats ya budget, will make life a hell of a lot easier!

I'll be putting a system together in my touring over the next few months hopefully.
The intention is a custom sub build in one side of the boot (in storage area), and the amps in the other side. Should be pretty stealthy.
For the front, a decent set of 5.25 comps, maybe 6.5s if I can be bothered with the work!

Get yourself something like this built:

and a load cover, the whole lot can be hidden under the cover for stealth.
the sub box stops just short of the hinges in the original floor, meaning when the (non-fixed) false floor is lifted, the amps and lighting all lift up too, giving easy access to the spare wheel as well
. And the whole boot build has cost less than £250 so far

Do you have anything to start with - ie a headunit?maxfield wrote:Looking for eBay bargains TBH with you.![]()

What sort of sound are you after? Do you want quality or volume?
Ebay is a very good start, but I do prefer to buy speakers new - as they can be fragile, and you don't know what sort of life they've had previously. Most of my amps are second hand from the bay!

Yes, I have a headunit.
I would like to have a bit of both. Don't want it loud and sound shit, but don't want very good quality and not be very loud.
I would only want to be running one amp and 2 subs and whatever is needed up front.

Go for two amps mate, purely because of the position of the front speakers in an e30. they need power to help them sing, and one more as you said for your subs. I used to run my speakers off the head unit and it was ok but the difference an amp makes, even a small one, is staggering. Much better volume and quality too. You will hear details you didn't know existed
even on stock speakers, as i did first time round, and they took 80 watts RMS up each of them
sounded pretty good actually

As secondtimelucky says, even stock speakers can sound surprising - internal headunit amps are never particularly good for SQ.
Given your budget, I'd go for a set of component speakers up front, and a single sub in the back. Power this lot from a 4-channel amp, with the comps on 1+2, and 3+4 bridged for the sub. The cheapest new amp that outputs enough for such a system is probably something like a JBL 75.4 - about £100 new delivered, but keep an eye out for something 2nd hand.
Something like this would do:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/infinity-amplifie ... dZViewItem
Although it's infinity, it's made by JBL - they are the same company, just a bit of badge engineering - like VW/Skoda ets.
Same goes for subs - there are loads of JBL GT4 10" or 12" out there new from about £30 - but you'll need an enclosure and wiring kit etc - it all mounts up. I have a GT4 12 in my golf at the moment - sound quality is good, and I have the ability to rattle the interior if necessary.

Some of my work in progress
No issues with the amps getting to hot

There is now a 3 section false floor on top of the amp/crossovers/distribution blocks now

WRONG they are not the same company - they have the same uk distributor!secondtimelucky wrote:!!!Never knew that!!! JBL and Infinity??? Same company(ish) well il be dammedalways rated infinity much higher than JBL
although a few sets of the earlier 6x9s and coaxils were made by the same factory in south africa then badged to suit each company!
same as audiobahn and alphasonik share the same postal adress, its due to the distribution companies!
scariest one though is pro-plus and sony are the same ;) 80 quid difference in the cost of the subs"
jbl is far superior to infinity! if ya know how to use it proper ;)

Fook me BadDave, that's a fair amount of gear you've crammed in there - almost room for the shopping as well!
Is that an Autotek 5-way active X-over?

It's a Pro sound 3/4/5 way x over
My 6 channel Kenwood got fried so needed a replacement and it came cheap and does the job
Sub cabinet was designed to house the 6ch amp for the fronts/sub amp and the dolby surround processer+EQ to give me some room in what was left of the boot area

I think they are the same unit - I paid £17 for mine - turns out that they are actually pretty good. Only thing I'd like to be able to do is drop the HPF for my mids - the lowest it will go is 90hz, but I may go back to passive for my E30, mainly to simplify things.BadDave wrote: It's a Pro sound 3/4/5 way x over

I'll have to change the rear(RTO) x-over to something more in keeping with the rest of the system components
I'm using 6 1/2" subs in the front door builds and feeding them with 80hz-400hz (used as sub and mid bass)with the mids getting 400hz -- about 1.2 khz and the tweets getting the rest.
My Alpine processor doesn't allow the fronts anything below 80hz if the subs in the rear are switched on but does if they're switched off
I use the paremetric EQ in the pro logic processor to boost/cut as required
Got the time correction about right as well,I think
Fairly makes a difference when playing a dvd
All it needs now is the centre channel aquired/fitted and trimmed to finish

I made the box myself and will be selling it shortly as its no longer needed. It houses a set of 3 way componants and a 12"sub.Combined with the Infinity componants i was running up front its sounded fantastic, lots of bass but not too boomy!
