Ive purchased this amp

http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product ... duct=21152

and no I didnt pay the silly price.

What sub would match well with this amp?

I will be using 2 sets of 6x9 speakers also.

I know that this amp is underated in the rms area and can prob handle alot more so take that in consideration. Also I do want decent clear bass so what sub would do the job? Pref cheapish.

Also what are Ohms, sorry Im new to this. And what Ohms would I be running it at?

different size subs are something to consider also, 10' subs are good for inside sound but you wont really hear them outside the car, 12' are good for all round sound they are the best imho, but i wouldnt got 15's they are big and often a 12 can do better. All depends on what you want to spend, i used to have a pair of jbl 10' subs which at the time cost me 30 pounds each from my local motor world store and they were loud and very clear base, i gotta fit my new setup in my touring but i will be having two 10' subs and two 12' subs with a set of 6x9's so should turn a few heads

Depends what sort of bass you're after....

12's won't hit the lows a 15 can, and 15's won't hit as quick as 12's do....

I've had subs ranging from 8" to 15"...and 15's are definately my fave! They produce a much deeper bass note that doesn't need to be pushed as hard as smaller subs.

Also the quality of the subs will really show once you start cranking it....yes you can buy cheap subs that sound okay when you push them abit, but pop as soon as you crank them for a little while!

I've been running my 4 15inch subs for over 4 years now, and they still kick like new....people have confused this system with JL Audio's, and there's no bigger compliment than that!!!

I think if you're going to spend money on it, then do it on quality components so you don't throw your money down the drain!

I'm also going to be running 4 subs in my touring soon....gona be 4 15's though. winkeye

if you bridge one pair of channels ( usually the rears) use that for the sub and the other pair of channels for the pair of speakers in the front. i think you have bought the wrong amp for what you want tho, to run a sub buy a mono amp as this will be better than a class a/b amp. a four channel amp like the rockford amp you've bought will be fine to a pair of front and rear speakers.

Do you reckon its the wrong amp because it doesnt have enough watts?

not so much the lack of watts, it seems not overly flexible on the power ratings, you will only get 50 watts rms per channel if the amp sees a 2 ohm load. i dont know of many speakers that run at 2 ohms, the norm is 4ohms ( the lower the impedance the harder the speaker is to drive)

does the birthsheet on your amp say its got lots more power than the average?
check out www.the12volt.com for a proper explanation on ohms law. it will be very enlightening!

I haven't got the amp yet its in the post.

Do you know if all the wires/leads etc for installation will come with the amp and sub?

If not is there a kit you can reccomend?

Cheers

amps dont generally come with anything so you will need to get to halfrauds or motorworld or similar and get yourself a wiring kit which should have power and earth leads plus a trigger wire to turn the amp on from the headunit. most of the kits also come with a pair of rca leads but if ur running a sub aswell you will need to buy another rca lead. autoleads stuff is good to get started with as its good value for money. make sure you buy a power kit thats at least 8 gauge ( thickness )

i would go for the qdos 4 gauge kit as ive used one before, really well finished off with decent connectors. the speaker cable is good too. at 40 quid its good value and gives good results. ive still got the speaker cables which im going to use when i do the install on my car.

if you buy 4 gauge then you have a bit of leeway in that if you decide to buy another amp in 6 months you wont have to pull up the carpet again. ive just been browsing their site and am going to buy this http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/produc ... /6738.html so that i dont have lots of runs of cabling to hide.

the 4 gauge kit comes with one pair of rca's so you would only be able to run a pair of speakers or a sub. so yes ur gonna need to buy another pair of rca leads. im gonna be running front and rear speakers with 2 subs so i need 3 pairs of rca leads.

they need to be 5 metres long to reach from the headunit and be hidden under the carpet etc so needs to long enough. 5 metres is fine. and you need one pair of rca leads per pair of components. if you're gonna add a sub later on you need to factor for that too.

two pairs of extra rca leads. 6 x 9's wont go in the front of an e30 unless you buy / make builds to put them into the front doors.

5 1/4 " will go straight in but if you are handy then you could put 6 1/2" speakers in but does take some doing. also component speakers are better in my opinion as you can decide where to put the tweeters

a component kit is a pair of mids and a pair of tweeters and usually a crossover to stop the high notes going to the mids and stops bass going to the tweeters. ive got a pair 6 1/2 " alpine components to go in the front. i need to make builds to get them into the kickpanels. the tweeters will most likley be put next to the mids to help with the imaging. the rears are a pair of 5 1/4" infinty kappa put into the rear shelf made from 12mm mdf. the front speakers will be run from an mtx amp and the subs from a mono jbl amp. im undecided yet if i should buy an amp to run the rear speakers or use an old one i already have

Ok, would you advise I get component speakers?

I think I have some tweeters. (will I need extra 2 rca for these?)

I have 6x9 in the rear (are these mids?).

But il need smaller speakers in the front

no the tweeters will run off the same pair of channels as the fronts, they are wired to the crossover with the mids and then wired to the amp, 6 x 9's in the shelf are fine. they are full range speakers as they are all enclosed , as in the tweeters and woofer are in one speaker basket.

Could I get these mids n tweeters and they would run fine, they don't come with crossovers though.

they look as if they have a capacitor inline, which filters out the bass frequencies so you wouldnt need a separate crossover
