Hi all,

Previous owner had a JVC CD installed via some artficial ISO electrical connector block combination. I decided to remove the artificial rubbish and install my Nakamichi. Nak is not ISO so I proceeded to install after removing previous rubbish. I was left with Violet/Grey, Red/Green, Brown, Red/Grey. I wired as follows V/G to Red, R/G to Yellow, Br/Bk and R/Gy to Orange. This all worked very well, pwere aerial went up and down cassettes played radio worked, amp switched on. All good.

Upon inserting the Nak into the cage it shut off. No fuses were blown just shut off. In thinking my Nak was fried (its from 1989) I proceeded to create an ISO for my Kenwood Mask. Nothing either, just a littlw whizz heard when yellow is connected.

Any suggestions guy, have I a ground problem somewhere. Both these units were previously installed in my '87 325i and the current car has identical wiring from the loom under the dash.

I have ordered one of those Looms from bluespot so if it arrives today before work ill see if that helps.

Thanks.

Are any wires catching on the cage or are there any bare wires that may be touching something?

re-wire basically.

i would remove each speaker and note the speaker cable colour. hopefully this will match the speaker wires you are getting behind the head unit. If not check in the roof/ back of the glovebox. Many people will botch from here when they accidently cut the wires too short at the din.

Also, ignore the standard wiring if you don't mind wiring in a relay linked to ignition (get a pre-wired one). This removes any other issues with standard/ altered wiring.

You can try and get by with the wiring you have, but some of it sounds altered, but to what extent? by the time you have figured it our you could have fried your unit, so jsut start as fresh as possible i would say.
