just finished tinting my rear lights today and while they look ace they also flash red, now i only did two very light coats and even used the same tinting spray in the guide. is there anyway to remedy this, i have heard of using green bulbs
is this any good and worth trying

Some people will tell you Yellow bulbs, but light reacts much differently than paint... I did pay attention in Science!StuBeeDoo wrote:That's todays lesson then - I never knew that.maxfield wrote:Yes, Green bulbs are correct.![]()

sorry fellas green and red do make yellow (i listened in art class) but not in this case as the red light comes from the lens and not the bulb colour (as the wavelength of the light is modified when it is filtered by the red lens, in this case only the shorter red wavelengths are visible thus creating red light (i also listened in physics class) putting a green bulb only makes the red light dimmer... not yellow....(otherwise they would flash white with a clear bulb!!!)
the only way to really get a yellow flash is to
1. use the reverse lights with yellow bulbs and dont paint the clear lens
2. adopt a system similar to the reverse light on a E39/E34 where only stripes of red are applied to the lens thus giving the illusion of a red light from a few metres away but still allowing enough of the original yellow colour un-painted so it still flashes yellow.
or alternatively
3. move to a country where they allow red indictaors
...it wont help them flash yellow but will make them legal..
sorry maxfield, now you know about pinking and interfearance of two or more wavelengths of light

Painting your bulbs is a waste of time, not to mention potentially dangerous as the light output will be reduced and other drivers will not be able to see your indicators in certain conditions.
Leave them red, mine went through MOT with red indicators, dont forget all these yank motors with UK registered No plates have red indicators also
