Hey guys

Fairly new to this forum and E30 ownership and needing a little advice

I currently have the following car....

Basically I'm not the biggest fan of yellow so was thinking possibly going either black or dolphin grey? If you guys have any other suggestions or agreements then naturally I would be happy to hear them!

As for the wheels I'm thinking something with a bit of dish and fairly original or euro looking? definetly not into bling and 22's so hopefully you can offer some advice.

I'm just in the process of fitting a new M10 to it which is basically done now so once its all ready to roll its off down to the painter so need some inspiration :)

Painting it black could be hard work depending on how good the the prep work was before it was sprayed yellow.Yellow is normally used to hide imperfections.Mine is the same as yours and its took months to get the panels right, should be sprayed in black this weekend or next weekend and hopefully it should be the last time that I have to wet flat it.
Test coat to make sure the panel was good before final paint.

Before paint, loads of wet flatting to get the panels right.

thanks for the helpful info on the wheels and paint colour  as a bmw specialist I could have put a 2.5 in it but to be honest I have other cars avaliable for speed.

Chiken - to be fair it was me selling the car. I have decided however to stop being lazy and fitted the engine to it today so its basically nearly done now :)

baur335i I know what your saying about the panels. They do look sort of rippled to put it on a more finer word if you look really closely? Is this what you meant regarding the finish?

I'm still not sure if its worth going through all the effort of having it painted but its the only thing I'm not 100% on the car for. The paint job on it is pretty good just the colour!!!

What I done to decide whether I was going to paint it a dark colour or not was to prime it in a light colour and whilst the paint was still wet I looked down the panels to see just how good they was,we then gradually darkened the primer to a really dark grey.Once we got to the dark grey we could see that the panels would be o.k for a dark colour. It would be worth you doing this and then if you are not happy with the panels you could always go for a colour that does not show the imperfections.White/yellow/orange and a few others are the colours that I was told to use.Alpine white might look better with deep dish wheels.

As it happens one of my friends has suggested a white. I recently had my companies works van repainted in white and its true its excellent for hiding any imperfections. Obviously not dents but other minor defects.

All I'm going to do at the end of the day is give it to someone that does all of the paint for my clients cars and say sort it out so by rights it would be on his head if the job came out crap but its worth bearing in mind as I know dark colours show just about everything up!

Plus white would look hard with some nice wheels. Your wheels look nice btw, any more shots of your car getting transformed?

that yellow isn't too bad, i believe its dakar yellow? but nevertheless, even I would have it sprayed, i personally like the blue colours - macau blue, mauritius blue etc. In terms of wheels, the original M3 BBS 2-piece wheels would be nice, i believe they are called BBS RZ. But a 5-stud hub conversion is not going to be cheap...

Hey guys

Well its back up and running so its just down to what I decide to have happen now. Originally the car was black however whoever has owned it previously to myself has also painted inside the engine bay, the boot, inside the doors, etc.

So basically going back to black will have no real impact hence me considering painting it any colour. I'm feeling the loss of the spoiler. I deal mainly with E36's in my line of work and have had a few E36's of my own de-spoilered. Plus I think it would probebly look harder without a rear spoiler?

As for eBay yes this was the car on there. I was originally selling it has a project for someone but I took out and replaced the engines within 2 days while doing my normal daily BMW customer chores :P so its all go go go!
