just a quick one...

what size speakers 'should' be in the rear of cabs?

as my bro's has some speakers that are too small, and are just hanging by 1 screw!

Also, i've seen some people fit 6x9s in the rears, is there much modding needed for this?

Also, if anyone can suggest good tweeter placement's, prferably hidded away!

Thanks, :D

13cm (130mm) are the correct size.

I've got Sony custom fits in mine. They come without grills, about 39 quid from Halfrauds I think they were. I've got the same in the front.

Sorry, forgot all about this thread! :o:
Thanks everyone for the replies!

I like the idea of getting 3-way speakers, as i prefer the balance they give compared to coaxials!

found out today that my bro's head-unit is....well it shite to be honest, and is giving really crap sound, so that's going to be replaced, and the speakers will be assesed at that time!

thanks again, i'll let you know what we choose!

so does the speaker show in the back?

want everything to be hidden away!

Also, where do people put their tweeters?

I've always had tweeters firing at the front or rear windscreens so they bounce the sound off at an angle and to the passengers.... not really possible with a cab in the rear, what with the no roof thing going on!

BMW made tweeter pods to go on the mirror backing. They are quite rare and not cheap as they are n/a new anymore, i payed £50 for mine.

don't go hacking away at the rear metal shelf it forms part of the structural integrity of the car if you had a rear shunt it would just crumple

it's for a cab!

there is no rear shelf!

no intention of modding anything...want the correct size speaker, either 2-way or 3way if possible! :D

it's for a cab!
I think he means that as you can quite happily hack away at a tin top rear shelf, but the cabs is indeed structural.

I am running 5 1/4 inch 3 way JVC in the rear and aslo quite happy with the results, sounds good but to be honest a cab is shite for the stereo due to lack of space to but a decent sized mid-range speaker without modding door panels etc.

Best advice is get the best 2 or 3 way 5 1/4 (13cm) speaker you can find and run it off an small amp (not the head unit as 90% of head unit amps are rubbish at any decent volume level)

Also a bonus of the cab is there is a handy power supply (fused too) just behind the rear seat back, normally reserved for the hot air blower, my hot air blower has been junked in favour of tunes and now runs my sub and speaker amps, all you need to do is open the roof and short out the micro switch located on the passenger side (RHD) underneath the roof frame. short this out and the supply will be on when you turn on the rear demister switch from your dash (handy to turn off the bass etc when you arrive in dodgy areas too!)

No intention of doing any cutting at all :D

I think 3-way speakers are the way to go, so they've been added to the list!

already wired the amp in, and as the rear hot air blower is working well, I think we'll leave that for now! got a remote for turning the amp up and down anyways! :D

Just looking for a decent setup, with good clarity, and balanced sound....gota get another amp for the speakers, and also upgrade the head-unit as the one that's in there is really shite!

I've told my bro to go for my old head-unit (Sony CDX-M8800) or something similar. It's packed with features for tuning the sound, 7 band graphic equiliser, high/low pass filters, sub control and lots more stuff you can tune the sound with!
