Where is the best place in the boot to earth amps/eq's etc from a stereo install without grounding the lights out or something?

:D

Same place as your battery...? The battery is in the boot, right?

Giles.

Yes Giles on the right hand side....In the past I have always been told to earth amps etc on the body as opposed to battery. Is that not the case then?

I dunno. Maybe. I'm no electrical genius I'm afraid.

Am I being stupid here, but I thought the negative battery lead was connected to the body... maybe I've been dreaming this and shouldn't be installing my own ICE!!!!

I think I've made a boo boo. Whoops. Sorry dude. There's some spare thread or holes around on the rear inner arch. My earht from the electric ariel is connected to one of these...

Now I don't know if your having a dig!

So Giles shall I earth it on the battery, the spare thread in the inner arch or just leave the system and hum to myself instead?

The metal of the inner arch is a good bet.

I dunno why I'm giving you advice on this to be honest. There's much better informed people on this subject on the Zone than me!

Let me get this right... there's a red wire and a black wire, and you're wondering where to put the black wire. There's no green/yellow wire to be getting confused with is there?

Not having a dig at all... serious!

And to think I've done all of my installs on the previous cars... and am planning to rip this one out and start again. Maybe working on my house renovation too much has confused my car electric and domestic electrical skills... oh bugger.

daryll

any bit of bodywork metal that shows a zero resistance to the battery negative terminal will do - inner wing, rear seat back are both fine. also there's no problem with running the earth back to the negative battery terminal - i've done this in the past with no adverse effects.

if using a part of the body as your earth and the system is going to draw a few amps then consider upgrading the battery negative to body lead - after all any chain is only as good as its weakest link. manufacturers tend to allow only a small headroom on their cable choice (seeing as profit is king) and if you add say a 30 amp current draw its unlikely your standard earth will keep up.

the standard advice is always to keep earth leads as short as possible. this may influence your decision.

Yep you was corrct cheers Giles.

I have re wired my whole house, run armoured cable down my 200ft garden and put digital tv in my bar, wired up a complex stereo system in my house but still I can't manage a poxy amp in my car.

Connected it all last night as you said and nothing! The only thing I can think of is that my mate took the remote power off the stereo incorrectly.
Managed to mangle a twin fuse block holder in the process too!
