Personally if I was doing it (which I thought about recently), I would do it matt black.
Its a lot less work and touching up the paint can be done in a matter of seconds, no need to rub it down, prime etc etc every time, just spray over.
I think priming would just be a case of keying the paint with varying degrees of wet and dry paper, primer (probably dark grey) then 2/3 coats of black, probably leaving about 20 mins in between coats.
Have a look at this guide, its for a red clio, but you get the idea

i'm tempted to repray my wifes mini matt black. it does need some work here and there and it'll look damn hard like that. i also have use of a (puny) compressor, spraygun and an area to do it too. all things considered, it would be rude not to!
the main concern i have is what pain to use. i've read of people using blackboard paint (chalk graffitti viper strips!!!!) black primer and you can get expensive stuff made for the job by hose of kolour etc.
choices choices!!!!

ooooh, i'd go beserk if that was my ferrari!!! that said, there's little chance of that ever happening so i'm not worried
grease on the paint is a valid point though as i'm looking spray matt black paint onto a mini. the car in question is far from mint so will have a lot of mechanical attention over the next few years (if i hold onto if for that long!!!) so greasy fingerprints will be rife!

I drive a matt black Fiesta to work and back every day. I hand-painted it using a roller, brush and blackboard paint. The most amazing thing about matt black is how it hides minor dents and scrapes. No reflections to catch your eye with matt paint.

How did I miss this one!
Matt black!
Though that satin ferarri looks the mutts nuts.
Mine is going matt black in a week or so when my mate moves into his new house and lets me use his garage to spray it.
