As above, can it be done. I do NOT have an Aux in.

My headunit is a sony cdx-m730 and it has the ability to plug a cd changer in and i believe it has some pre outs, whatever they are.

I am totally thick and usually uninterested when it comes to ICE. :)

So can I get something that will basically become an AUX IN. Somethng like a cd changer TO aux in cable. How hopeful is that! 8O

I think this will do. No association etc. Shop around for price.

A cheaper option is one of THESE

It just plugs into the CD changer (unilink) socket on the back of the headunit, and fools the system into thinking you've plugged a CD changer in. This allows you to feed any audio signal you like into the CD changer 'audio in' phono sockets. You can't control the iPod form the headunit, or see anything on the stereo display like the link above, but it certainly allows you to listen to your iPod.

You'll also need THIS lead to connect the iPod to the aux in.

I don't think that'll work with all head-units...i recall it not working on some older pioneers..!

Another option is the fm transmitters from ebay...about £15...they have a socket for ipod/mp3 + also a socket for a memory stick (usb). This is what i'm using, and sounds good, with little interference....

if however you're building a bigger install i.e. external amps and subs, then i'd recommend the above options, as this way does provide a very low signal for ampage as it's sent over radio frequencies.

something like this

although there other's that are specific for the ipod available.

Cheers guys I didn't think I would get as good a response as I have done. Nice one. The reason I ask is that I saw a cd changer to Ipod thing as part of a headunit lot on ebay so thought it must be possible somehow.

Ian thats what my brother thought you would need, he is one of these electronic types :) He knew that you would need something to tell the headunit that there was an Aux in waiting to be used through the pre outs. I would have just brought a cable like in your second link and expected it to work. :o Thanks Ian

Aceraf I brought my misses one of those and found it crackly at best on her lesser spec cd headunit, although I haven't tried it on mine, I am not too hopeful! I shall try it tomorrow.

Choppa, stupidly I didn't state that my headunit was a cd player(although some guessed due to the model number) so your solution won't work on mine

Cheers for the help, i'll investigate the transmitter, then probably buy something like what Ian has posted if its rubbish.

Just thought I would add this link for the guys with an Alpine or Blaupunkt head unit. It seems to be the same idea as the above sony one, but cheaper for you guys. :-x

The transmitter i've got works well in my car, and i've even tested it in a car with amped speakers and subs, and still sounds good....

there are others on the market that aren't as good as well though....pot luck i suppose seen as they all look, and cost about the same!

Nice one Jon.

I bought something similar for my 1994 Alpine 7816m head unit but it doesn't work.

Anyone have any ideas why? The seller says I need to go into the menu to set it up but there is no menu on this model.

Cheers

go for the cd changer adaptor lead - cheapest option.

Or you could get the ipod specific interface that also plugs in through the cd changer plug allowing you to control your ipod through the stereo - expensive option!

Purely a personal view but every one of the leads that allow you to play mp3.s through the casette player
sound dreadful. You would be better off singing to yourself imho.
