i was thinkin about rebuilding my boot (again) so the face of my sub was facing the back of the ski hatch and havin the back of the box as a solid panel across my boot so all you can see is my 2 amps and power cap in the middle of them so i could try and get a bit more bass in the cabin
has anyone done this and does the sound from the sub distort in anyway or improve????
Cheers

Subs seem to work better facing away from the cabin IMO, but the difference is negligible (sp).
Bass frequencies have a big wavelength so the sound travels easily through materials. High frequencies have a shorter wavelength and don't pass so easliy, hence sounding muffled.
Panelling it off with 6 inch thick mdf may help but not noticibly so.

I doubt very much it will be louder. Increasing the rating and quality of your sub and amp is the only surefire way to do it.

what sub and amp are you running?
as i dont seem to have any problems with bass going through my car and the sub aint even placed directly in front of the ski hatch.

of course it will be louder - the sound doesn't have to travel through stuff to get to the passenger cell of the vehicle. it's like standing just outside the room of a working system and opening and closing the door - same effect. it will be clearer too for the same reason.
volume increases massively with increased speaker efficiency - far more so than with more amplifier power. trouble is sub efficiendy is very difficult to judge based on manufacturers figures. volume also increases if sound waves have less work to do - hence sound deadening increasing volume as sound wave don't expend as much energy vibrating panels. so if more volume is required - get dynamatting!
i think you'll be surprised how much better a sub will sound if it's firing straight into a cabin rather than through a bulkhead and/or trim.
