Im looking at replacing them with just some cheap basic ones so i can put it to a volume i can actually hear without it distorting.
What size should i be looking for, and is there anything i should avoid/try to get ?

My front speakers (not in door, but footwell) are awful!

What you get depends on how much money you've got to spend! But as a good budget choice, something like some Alpine components (as in seperate tweeters rather than co-ax) will be a big step up without breaking the bank

Thanks. When i say basic, i mean ... a tenner!
Just took my old stereo out (im busy at work, eh?), its got 7 cables.
4 = speakers
1 = anetnna
1 = earth
1 = full time power
It doesnt even have a switched power damnit!
At least wiring it to a ISO unit wont be too hard.

Fair 'nuff! Trying to find something that someone's got going spare sounds like your best bet then 
You might be better off swapping the headunit first though - a truely awful amp will still sound terrible through relatively good speakers!

Yea, i got the head unit (borrowed from brother!) to fit tonight, see if the current speakers are bad because of the amp in old stereo. Its got to be the original, or worse!!!
If its still bad, i'll purchase some cheapys online.
