that turns ordinary people into butchers...

The previous owner of my car saw fit to spend £3k on maintenance in the last 30k miles, the car is a shining example of his care.

But at the same time he thought it acceptable to do this

It's going to take ages to sort that lot out :?

Mine looks similar! I tried to follow the excellent guide on here, but looking in the dash, the wires it says are permanent live/switched live/earth and not even connected to anything. There are loads of wires no stripped back, but just loose all over.

Yet the old Pioneer tape unit that is in there now works fine, sound coming out of all four speakers. I showed a guy in a stereo shop who tried to argue only 2 speakers were wired, until I proved otherwise. Quoted an hour at £47 + VAT, plus £15 for an ISO plug to sort it.

I'll get back to him....

mine was chocolate block city. spent a good 2 hours striipig everything back and soldering a new plug onto it, was well worth the effort. even got the dash switch working so the sterio doesnt blind me at night.

Dude, mines worse. And still haven't got round to fitting a working stereo because of this.

Awful on long journeys, but I prefer the soundtrack of the engine (at least thats what I tell people when they moan I still haven't fixed it)!

Also means I can hear unexpected/random/bad noises as soon as they appear, been getting lots and lots of problems with my money pit lately.. I mean E30.

er no. it didnt cross my mind but seriously its not that hard, you just need a multimeter and a bit of brain power, if some spotty geek at halfords can do it then im sure my nan could. (im not a spooty geek from halfords by the way) if you lived close then id do it for you for a good drink.

Thats how I ........er I mean Ali sorted mine. It was a mess but after playing around I ended up with a green power lead and a yellow lead that did nothing.

Have a poke around with a multimeter and see what does what its the only way, you cant rely on the wire's colour.

your actually quite lucky mate! When I bought my cab ages ago, I had to run new wires as there literally was nothing there except a power and earth cable dangling loose! Keep a few fuses handy!
