I have recently had a F reg E30 318i 4dr saloon fall into my hands. It needs a body kit of some sort, can anyone recommend one to me, bearing in mind i am going to be lowering it on 17's when i have found a kit.

difficult for a four door kit, best bet is to try and find a BMW factory tech 2 kit (as your car should be the facelift version) its a simple fit and looks good, also available are the door sidepods but these are four door and touring specific and they do turn up from time to time in the for sale section.
i did an article on how to fit them so you will get an idea of how it will look.

however if you fancy something a bit more extream then it is worth noting that all facelift E30's share the same lower front and rear panels so bumpers for any facelfit E30 car will fit. then you will need some side skirts, here you may find problems so look for kits for a 4 door or a touring.
