Removal of lower front centre console

I am sure I have seen this somewhere before, but am struggling to find it as it was in the context of something else.

Having just fitted cross-overs for the front speakers, and refitted my phone kit, I located the various "boxes" below the heater controls. I did this with the heater panel out to provide access. This is fine, except that I now have a prob with the o/s midrange, and want to access the cross-over, without removing the heater panel, so I figure the easiest way is to remove the lower centre console.

How difficult is this, what do I need to look out for, and how long is it likely to take me? Bearing in mind that mine is a auto, does that make it any more difficult?
