When it comes to stereos I am a bit naive. I have a nice Kenwood mask which I have had for about 3 years....was the top one cant remember model number but it sounds crap. I only have some cheap crappy rear shelf speakers and whatever else came standard in the front wells of the M3.
I dont want to go mad (at all) but just want maybe a 6 speaker set up....rears, fronts and maybe tweaters.
Can someone please recomend what I should get and if I would need an amp for the rears blah blah
I dont want to spend much but its getting on my tits.

Cheapest upgrade - 6x9's for the rear, and a nice set of components up front - mids/tweeters. No need for amp, as headunit will be powerful enough, and will save you too much extra wiring. Of course you'll need that amp if you want decent volume/better sound, and you'll be needing a sub as well, but cheap/better sound is achieveable from just 6x9s and componments. I'm sure most audio experts will completely disagree with me though

I dont listen to my music loud so that sounds pretty good....tbh Val Doonican sounds shite loud anyway....you lose clarity.
I do want to know what sort of speaker that can just replace the front speakers without butchering my door cards.

You can just replace the factory speakers with replacement mids... They aren't in the best position, but if you mount your tweeter pods on the corner of the door by your mirrors, you'll still get decent sounds...Falkster wrote:I dont listen to my music loud so that sounds pretty good....tbh Val Doonican sounds shite loud anyway....you lose clarity.

budget?
it's an m3 you've got so something decent to compliment it - i'd suggest you start out with 4 of these focal speakers link in the factory locations powered by this: audison amp link for very decent sound quality. once these are installed you can re-evaluate as to what it is you are really looking for in your setup, knowing that the kit above will survive additions and upgrades really well.
have you read the ice article in the articles section? it may answer some questions but crucially pose a few more.

Cheers Daz/Paul, gives me some more to go on.
When I say I dont want to spend much I really mean Im a tight get from Yorkshire and want to get as much as I can for as little as possible. But seriously when I say that I mean Im not the sort of person that wants subs boom boom booming all the way down the street with the number plate rattling but just want something a lot better than Ive got now without turning my car into an ICE factory.

if you are on a budget go for infinity components in the rear and infinity two ways in the rear.......then later on use a 4 ch amp to run them. good thing about car audio you can do it in stages!!!
