Bought some SE skirts for my iS but they are the wrong colour,

Apart from giving them a good clean what is the best way to spray them?

I imagine you can get the paint from dealer or something but I dont have a spray gun.

What prep work is required?

Can I buy the paint in spray can form?

Or do I just take it to a pro and get them to do it for me?

I done mine with a spray can, prep is always best!

Rub them down, with first a rough paper, then get smoother, then i used plastic primer.

Waited for them to dry, and sprayed them with the colour. Got them done within a weekend, best to it in dust free conditions, otherwise bits stick to the new paint, and that can be a arse to remove

yes, prep is very important, when it comes to dust and dirt. idealy you need to get an air hose to get rid of 99% if not all particles from rubbing down.

i had no problems spraying with a can before. its very easy to pick up and learn

Find a paint suppliers - there's one on most big industrial estates & it's much better than halfords stuff (a can goes further too).

& I personally like to use laquer on top of the final coat - just flat it back slightly first.

Guys need to have a panel resprayed as well, is it better to have the spray shop order it all or source it myself (in which case may get them to order enough for the skirts too) Will need spare paint for the rear valance as well...

If you prep the skirts yourself, I bet you could convince the paint shop to do the top coat as part of the bigger job... :D

They won't be getting rattle cans though & they'll probably mix it themselves, so if you want to paint the skirts yourself it'll probably be easiest just to get it seperately. The paint shop may be able to get it cheaper though!

your opeing yourself up for a world of frustration especially painting in red.. i paint as a hobby. its abit more complictaed than explained and if you have a panel to do then get it all done by a pro or it will look pants. that way it'll be spot on. doing the skirts yourself will only save about 40 quid or so... if you are on the way to dartford at any time let me know and i have a top pro that would do all your paint for about Ԛ£120

i know i sounds like im pissing on your parade but im trying to give you some straight up advice if you want your car looking nice or as if someone else has painted it with a brush....

No worries man, no offence taken, I've never been too keen to do it myself, home spray on the rear lights was fun enough, too easy to get bits stuck etc and my shed is not exactly dust free!

jon - thanks for the offer but I've already got these, can't afford to sort some out in red too!

There is a place local to me a few people have recommended so I'll pop round and have a chat, see what they price the whole lot as...
