removing door rub strips

i'm thinking of colour coding the black bumper inserts on my white facelift tourer (though i'm still undecided)

has anyone removed the door rub strips to see what's underneath? can they be removed without damaging paint? is there fixing clips and hence holes in the door?

or should i paint them and risk flaking?

The bumper inserts CAN be colour coded, but i personally think they tend to look a bit chav.

Ive removed the door rub strips on my project car.
There are holes in the door underneath and the door panel has a resess for the rub strip to sit in, so the door panel is not smooth like you may imagine, which is a shame. They CAN be removed easily without damaging the paint and there ARE fixing clips behind them (3 if i remember correctly)
The door trims also have a plastic nut that secures the rub strip to the car.
I personally think they look wrong diddly wrong wrong painted, but everyone has their own opinion on styling, so if u like it, do it.

See my sig, I am removing the rub strips before respray.

Yeah there are little white clips that hold them on and they have little holes in the skin that they attach to, I glassed them up then backfilled the lot with filler.
