Fitted some Infinity 5012i speakers today in place of whatever was there before. They fitted into the hole down in the foot well OK, but when I replaced the side trim with the built in speaker grille, it presses tight against the tweeter dome.

I'm worried it might damage the speaker, it has made a "bump" in the grille, it's that tight.

Do I need to cut out the BMW grille and replace it with the Infinity one, I'd rather keep the car looking standard and it sounds fine to me.

Sorry, can't get it to link to the page with the speakers on, just Infinity's home page! :(

Should be fine, the tweeter doesnt have the excursion of a midbass speaker so wont hit the outer grille.

Sorry, not been really clear.

It's pushing against the grille all the time, bending the grille outwards by about 5 mm! The tweeter domes are made of hard plastic, but do they need to move?

Nope, they move but only minute amounts, they should be ok. there is a ring of plastic to protect the tweeter so that should stop the grille touching the tweeters cone.

i fitted components in mine today and the mid is quite close, Glad i didnt choose 2-ways now

Ah, OK.

Thanks for putting my mind at rest! They sound really good considering it's just running of a head unit, still goes loud enough for me!
