Blaupunkt cd player in punto

Just looking for some advice.
the above mentioned has packed in my mothers car (came standard with car)
radio is still working but CD's refuse to play (CD error appears on the screen
and there is a clicking noise)
has been playing up for about a year but always ended up playing the discs on the 3rd or 4th attempt but now its a no go. anyone have any diagnosis,
is it a laser problem or a simple connection gremlin.

Have you tried simply getting one of those cleaning discs and playing it a couple of times??

I know vauxhall ones are terrible for that - usually find the best solution is to throw them away!! New h/u's are pretty cheap now anyway!!
