Has anyone used the german style number plates on their e30s for road use and had any problems with the  (fuzz) geddit :P

I am thinking that if you have the plates without the german D on the side that they should be ok. The e30s are well before the 2001 number plate change of law and some of them would have originally had the metal pressed plates when they were new so that they should be alright. I remember when number plates here were pressed metal before these acrylic ones, that don't see to last very long (showing my age now), and they are retro and suit the e30.
:P

ive got german plates on mine.

white front and white rear.

unfortunatley due to getting banned i havent had the pleasure
of driving the car to get pulled over yet.

habing the german d at the side isnt illegal as long as you got a yellow
rear it should be all fine.

but on a black car i cant resist the white rear winkeye

I have had a set on for a few months now with the Stadt and Plakette stickers front and back.

I have had the Police park behind me at times and I thought they would pull me but they never did. I do have a legal set of plates in the boot just in case I have to use them.

TBH, my numbers are perfectly readable, not mispaced, not italicised or anything so I really can't see why they would pull me.

I've got german plates on mine (from dubmeister) and the reg is spaced wrong!!!

Only had 'em on a couple of months (but i do a lot of miles!!), but not had any probs with them yet!! Even when i got pulled they never mentioned it!!
I do keep a pair of genuine road legal plates in the boot though and they're all on velcro - just in case!!

miniblob, I like your registration very cool.
Do all the German plates have a 0 with a slight space in them?

As above, I've ran them for 18 months on 2 different cars with no problems whatsoever.

I think that because they are very legible (I've been done by 2 speed cameras with them on!) the police don't seem to have a big problem with them.

Obviously get a jobsworth that's bored and he will pull you for them because after all they are illegal.

Ive had mine for about 4 months and (touch wood) ive never been pulled for them and I quite often have to drive past the numberplate recognition van and stop checks with the old bill waiting round the corner.

You don't often hear of problems with the police - but if you DO intend on using them for anything other than shows you'd be well advised to have a spare set of UK plates with you - our plate frames are easily opened and aid quick swapping...

And yes, the '0' has a little gap at the top right - the German typeface was designed to be 'fool proof' in that no two characters are ever almost the same (unlike the UK typeface). So each character has been designed completely differently so nothing can be altered.
