Fortunately my credit card was maxed and the transaction failed, my bro has just bought an E36 and indeed the badges are smaller.
Does anyone know if you can get blacked out badges for the E30, closest I've seen is transfers on the Bavarian Autosport site which you stick over the blue bits but I'm not sure that this won't look sh1t, any ideas?

sorry tp p1ss on the parade. FYI E30 bonnet and boot badges are different, the rear is shaped to fit the boot. BUT the bonnet bagde will fit in the boot slot, and I did this and simply put a specially designed spacer under the bottom of the badge so that it is only noticable from the underneath, but from top only close inspection will reveal the truth.
To make the spacer is difficult, take a Heiniken beer mat. rip it in half. rip it in half again. fold it into thirds, stuff it underneath the bottom of the badge. job done.
have you considered painting the blue bits black??
here is bonnet badge on the back...
