what do you mean by 'pants'? poor quality sound or crackly and very quiet etc?

Check all the conections, especcially the earths. If the equipment has been used before, and especially if it was disconnected for more that a week, the terminals can start to corrode and make poor connections. Give them all a going over with a wire brush.
Hope it helps

hi there nice to meet another local on here, if the speakers have been sat for a while i always put a couple of drops of 3in1 oil down the inside of the cones (where they meet the magnet) somtimes it could be a bit of dust or grit in there making them sound ruff worth a go always seem to work on mine good luck, colcabman
