Ian's install update (30/06/06).

I've been busy working on the amp enclosure again this week.

Here's a couple of shots of the underside of the base board. All the big grooves are for the 4 awg power/gnd cables and the smaller ones are for the fan wiring.




I've also been busy trimming everything as well





I still need to paint the vent grills. They are just trial fitted to make sure everything fit's okay.

I don't have any pictures yet, but I'm 90% done with the wiring as well

Infact, it's the first time I have ever used a router and bought it specifically for this job

one question, out of curiosity where does your fans vent the hot air to? looking at the picture they seem to be right up against the seat back

I know it looks like they are right up against the seat back, but there is a gap there. The fans actually blow into the amp enclosure and the hot air escapes through the vent grills at the front as well as either end. In an ideal world the fans would be at either end (one blowing and one sucking), but there's no space

I'll be fitting a temperature probe inside the enclosure to monitor how hot it gets though.

Here's a list of everything

Sony CDX-C90R Headunit
Sony XDP-4000x Processor
Sony CDX-C91 Changer
Rainbow CS265 Profi Vanadium kickbass components (2 way)
2 x Crystal CMP8 8" subs in sealed enclosures
2 x Genesis Dual Mono's running the Rainbows actively
1 x Genesis Miniblock running the subs.

All the connections between the Headunit, Processor & Changer are done optically. All the interconnects are DIY using Van Damme cable and Neutrik phono connectors. Speaker cable is also Van Damme.

This lot should keep me busy for a while

Okay peeps. Here's a few more piccys now the amps are fitted in the enclosure and most of the wiring is done.








All the power cables are secured by those small metal plates and each one of those is routed into a small recess to keep the bottom flush. The fan and remote cables are in the other smaller groove and are totally sealed in hot melt glue that's been shaved flush with the base of the board.

I've still got to paint the vent grills and make the enclosure lid, but it's coming along nicely

Not all that much progress since my last update, but at least the amp enclosure is completely finished now.

Here's some pictures showing the completed enclosure now the wiring is all secured and the quick connects/phono's have been fitted. I've also painted the vent grills and made the lid.







I've just got to finish of the sound deadening before I can fit it in the car.

After much searching, I've also managed to get hold of the increadibly rare DAB tuner that goes with my headunit/processor. Sony stopped making these ages ago, but this one is brand new and never been fitted




Oh well, back to it...

Okay guys, I've had a busy old week and have pretty much finished in the boot now.

Before fitting the amp rack, I did a bit of deadening on the rear bulkhead:



Then the amp rack went in...



....and the lid went on:



This is where the distro block lives:



I also made a little cover to hide it:



Then the CD changer and the boot tidy was fitted:



I also made a new floor board and trimmed it to match:



Next job is to mount the 4000x processor and DAB unit in one of the rear 1/4 panels. I know roughly where it's all going, but there's not that much space to play with.
