Just bought new head unit for the cab (JVC KD-G821 MP3 +USB...very pleased) and am about to fit some door builds (excellent from Placey). Have fitted 5" pioneers in the back and going to fit 6"sonys in the front but wonder can I use the tweeter wires instead of putting new cabling in and also can i run the original crappy speakers in the footwell as well..would there be any advantage??

replace the cables. no question imho.

no point in running the old speakers in the footwell you'll just mess up the impedance.

dave

pleased to see they're going in!

the tweeter wires are thin and therefore only good if you intend to run tweeters from them so hoshy is right. (hello hoshy long-time no-see!) it's well worthwhile running some good quality cable into the door but a word to the wise - go for as thin as possible (but keep the quality up!) as the extra cable through the rubber boot will cause it to not fold as designed with the door shut and foul the furflex door seal thus letting in water, especially on the drivers side as there's more cables through there from the factory as the mirror controls are both there.

it's fiddly getting the cables through the boot - i found it best to unplug the multi-pin socket at the car side and push the cable end through from the kick panel then straighten the boot as far as possible and feed it though, catching it in the door when it makes itself visible. look after those rubbers though as last time i asked bmw they were no longer available.

Here is the finished result

Image[/img]

the second one was much easier...only took me an hour...it is quite an easy job

daz ..can i show you at ferribridge or I can give you a bell ...pm me a number

placey my initial reaction is that they look great but could do with being a bit slimmer as they but onto my knees...I had to cut the door pull as ibuilds must have to be a bit higher in a cab because of the side strengthening bars..no probs wth that though...used accoustic carpet to cover them...daz I have some left if you want a bit

Had some wires that came with the new pioneers with the spade connectors already on so fed them through the doors and up the rubber boot attatched to a wire hanger ..had no troudle with this
let you know what it sounds like later
