6x9's in the shelf

in my old car i used to have 2 crazy 15" 1500 rms 3000peak legacy subs and am looking to put some speakers in my bmw, i was looking at the big square vibe 6x9s as i do want some bass but not asmuch as last time, so what i realy wanted to now is how other people have put 6x9s in the rear shelf bit and the amount of work to do it? any pics would be usfull.

I've fitted some infinity 6x9's on my rear shelf and they sound very nice indeed, and i've still got my boot space... i've never really been one for subs, but these 6x9's really do give some punch, no need for a sub.

They did take ages for me to fit as i built a frame that is mounted to the rear shelf, then covered it with acoustic cloth and put the air ducst and seat belt hole covers back in position so it just looks like a high parcel shelf. If you know about e30's then its obvious that theres something hidden in the shelf, but generally no one has noticed... You do have to take the back seats out to get access... Otherwise i guess you would have to cut a hole in your rear shelf for the magnets to sit...

For sound quality reasons, speakers in the rear of the car (apart from subs) is considered a bad thing. It messes with the sound stage and imaging etc. It's like going to a music concert and standing with your back to the stage.

If you are looking for good bass and don't want a box in the boot, you could try something like the Genesis profile 6x9 subs. These would provided the important low frequencies without taking up boot space. You would need a small amplifier to run them properly, but this is probably a good compromise over space and performance.
