Under seat sub

Hi guys, I've just purchased an e30 coupe for the road. Yesterday I changed my head unit for an alpine unit (iPod one etc which is 50x4 power I think), I also changed the front speakers for vibe slick 5.25 size speakers in the original place. The rear of the car has slightly larger speakers fitted (mb quart) which look quite old but sound quite reasonable if sat in the back. Basically the car has next to no bass (compared to my standard modern car I just sold. I don't want to add an amp, 6x9s massive sub etc but would like a bit more bass. I find the volume enough at the moment. I've read a little about the pre amped under seat subs. Has anyone used one in their e30 and what did you think? Thanks for any replies peeps!a‘a
I would say under seat subs are a waste of money in an E30. There isn't enough room to fit a decent sub under there.
Buy some decent 6.5" component speakers and put them in the front doors where the door pockets are (preferably with a decent amp) and you should get the sound you want.
If you want to be stubborn and keep the front 5.25" speakers in the stock location, you can use some sound deadening behind the speakers and an mdf ring around it to seal off the gaps. The front and rear of the speaker need to be totally seperated otherwise you'll get sound cancellation, which will kill the bass. I don't think you'll be happy with this setup, and you'll just be wasting time and money.
6.5" speakers might not seam much bigger than 5.25" but it does make a different on how much bass it will produce. Also the stock locations don't leave much room for the speakers to breath. If fitting speakers into the doors the speakers will have the whole door behind it to use as an enclosure, which will give you good bass

Thanks for the reply. I've recently fitted some 5-1/4 inch vibe speakers in the standard place and put some dynomatt behind them. All I can say is huge bass now. (Not really haha) I'm not a fan of cutting the front door cards as my interior is immaculate and don't want to spoil it. The rear speakers are 6 inch mb quart which sound ok if you sit in the back but once on the move you can't really hear the bass.

Whilst it isn't a bad sub for a hatchback, it might be a bit lost in the e30 boot.
Cut the ski hatch out, it will help get the bass through.

I have a under seat sub in my new fotd van. I dont want to mess with the standad stereo as i want to replase the van in 2 year. The sub is not that loud but with the standad speakers and stereo it realy makes a big difference. Of course i want more we are only human and all always want more
I know people who use under seat subs (like the one above) in old aircooled VWs where they can't or don't want to add amps and subs etc.
They all say they're aren't loud but make a good difference and they're happy with them.

Just an update-Whilst sat in traffic today I had a little play with the fade on the stereo. I faded to the rear and then to one speaker only as I thought I heard a rattle. When I faded it I noticed a lot more bass, then I faded it to the centre and the bass disappeared. The person who fitted previous system had to polarity incorrect. When I got home I took the radio out and corrected the polarity. The sound was lots better with much more bass (6/6.5 inch mb quart rear)the number plate even rattled a bit haha. As I went in the the house I noticed my sub had arrived also. So I fitted that and tried it out. The car now has much more bass. The sub drops low when required and is quite punchy for dance music etc. The saloon boot does slightly mute the bass but I personally think it's very good and suited to the volume of my whole system. The sub takes up very little space in the boot and even the spare wheel is accessible without removing the sub.
