Scanned a few previous post and not really found a satisfying answer....

I would like to know if anyone has any fixed measurements or has done this before

I am going to make a sub box to fit in the ski hatch in the rear of my 316i touring

Thanks

Ski hatch, in a touring???

I've got a large sub taking up most of the boot of my touring!!!
I have knocked the ski hatch through and had subs firing throught the ski hatch, where the rear arm rest is, in a couple of saloons!!!

What size box you want will depend on your sub - tape measure time!!!

Very generic - the volume of the enclosure should be adjusted depending on what sub you use!!!

Presumably you want the measurements so you can make your own box???
So surely you could measure it up easily enough???

Measure the width and height of the boot, find the specs for your sub, (enclosure requirement & displacement), Google a sub box calculator and it will tell you how deep it should be to get the required volume!!!

I wouldn't put a massive box in like that one , maybe build a custom box just a fraction bigger than the ski hatch, secured in place, with 2 or 3 small subs vertical stacked facing in through the hatch, using the rear bench arm rest as an open/close hatch also

Would also keep free boot space not taking up much room , could be cool if done right

That's not going to work

2x8" subs will need more box volume that an single 10"

Done right, surely a full width box could be slimmer and less intrusive than a lot of box designs!!!

Very very true

But as you know, too slim and not having enough volume behind the sub will cause distortion

Looking on Google shows plenty of free air subs mounted in such a way begins a skit hatch with no box behind them

Although I know fall about subs tbh

I've not looked recently, but you'll do well to find a good free air sub!!! A true free air sub is designed to work from a baffle, rather than a box!!!

I'm sure there was an e30 with, maybe 3, free air subs in the boot, with a shaped baffle angling them towards the ski hatch! That was a long while back though!!!

I was originally a sealed box man and converted to ported (JL HO slot ported are awesome)

But now, with the e24 which currently has 2 x 10w6's in ported box, I'm feeling the need to go back to sealed and tone down the volume and aim for more SQ.
