Hey guys,

I know this has been discussed before but have forgotten what was suggested.

I'm lookin to do a DIY job of making my facelift rear lights all red (excluding reverse light obviously).
Whats the best suggestion in terms of what paint to use, masking (should I just mask everything bar the orange indicator part of the light) and how to make them flash orange after i.e. can I just paint the bulb yellow? if so any particular paint to use for that?

Was thinkin bout just buying a set of professionally done rear lights but I reckon a good DIY job could get pretty close and save me a packet.

Cheers!

Thanks mate!

Had a look and I think I'm definitely gonna give it a go but what about the indicators - don't they flash red?

What do I do about the bulb? Buy an orange one or paint it yellow? If so what paint should I use?

Cheers!! :thumb:

if you dont apply too thick layers they will flash orange like mine, but they dont look complete re, more of a darker orange. you could try a green bulb to see if it flashes yellowish

Cheers mate! Looking to have the red as similar as possible to the rest of the red on the lights.

You sure about a green bulb? I was thinkin bout yellow since red and yellow make orange.

Yes. mixing yellow and red makes orange when using something like paint. But this is different when mixing light.

Ahhh...I see now.

Thanks for the pointer. So can I buy a green bulb or just paint it. If so is there any particular type of paint I should use?

buy a green bulb! not paint!

alternative would be to only stripe the indicator lens with red, look at a E39 and you will see what i mean, that should make the lens look red but leave enough to let it flash yellow.

i will get a green bulb when my car is out of the paint shop and let you know if it works. did mine all red but nobody cares here in the gulf!! winkeye

i used red glass tint that i found then clear lacquer then polished it up

Heres a pic of my lights i did recently.
Fisrt of all i did just the Red indicator but after having them on the car for a few days i wasnt to keen on the reverse lights being white,so i masked all the Red up and smoked just the reverse parts.
Looks much better in my opinion.
Still not done anything about them flashing Red yet,so will be watching this thread for a definate solution.

Pic is a bit crap cause its pouring down outside.
