Hi,
New to the forum and the world of E30's so any help appreciated.
Have a 91 Cab with a dodgy after market HU that was installed in Cyprus of all places. They've run some speaker cable to the rear but when I took out the seats, side panels etc I noticed that there were speaker terminals coming from the cars loom. By the front speaker pods there are a few connectors poking out of the loom that aren't plugged up and TBH I've not traced these as yet as it's been bucketing down lately. Why would the original terminals not have been used originally was rear speaker connection originally a cost option?
Going for a discrete look as much as possible and have sourced the BMW Business RDS (Philips PH7850) which has cassette but should allow iPod connectivity (necessary leads ordered) I guess a competent fitter should be able to do this? The previous HU has a real birds nest of wiring behind it...
Finally based in Reading so I think John Kleis is my only option locally, anyone had experience with these guys.
Thanks in advance for feedback and roll on the sunshine...

Welcome to the zone.
Your best to get a good car electrical sparky to sort it out.
As far as I'm aware you car would not necessarily been supplied with any headunit as a stereo was an option on the E30.
It does sound like when the current setup has been fitted (aka bodged) they have used new cabling etc.

Perhaps they didn't use the original wiring because it went via a dashboard-mounted fader control (rheostat) and there was a digital one already built into the head unit.
Some of the older OEM faders are rubbish, and cause all manner of nasty crackling sounds.
