Is these a way I can connect a cheap ipod upto it which I can just keep in the glovebox?
Alpine - Ipod?

ive just brought the cda-9856 for this reson. once the ipod is plugged in you just use the headunit to search for music on the ipod. which is a must because once the ipod is plugged in it cant be used.. it locks up the buttons
with an older alpine i doubt that the headunit will give access to the ipod. i think you could use the ipod with no trouble with the 3.5mm jack but you will have to have the ipod handy as you will be useing that to control music. also compatibility issues might pop up. i could only use 5th gen+ with my alpine and shuffle doesnt work either.. if all fails just ues the 3.5mm jack and plug from ipod to headunit and control from the ipod..

does your headunit have a CD changer connector or a set for phonos for an aux in??
If you have a CD changer plug you can get an adapter to link to an ipod and if you have some aux in phonos you just need a phono to jack lead

yh they do, the lead just plugs into changer port and gives option to use the ipod, but you wont be able to stick the ipod in glovebox as you will have to control the music from the ipod
only later alpine models give the option to control the ipod from the headunit
but... the issue is the ai-net unit isn't compatible with later ipods/phonese30maddog wrote:yh they do, the lead just plugs into changer port and gives option to use the ipod, but you wont be able to stick the ipod in glovebox as you will have to control the music from the ipodonly later alpine models give the option to control the ipod from the headunit
You can get an adapter for £10 or so which enables the older units to charge new iPods. The alpine setup in my e30 fitted around 8 years ago which uses the ainet control unit will control my iphone4, it just won't charge it without a converter.
cheers,
