how much to lower

Recently got my E30 convertible, needs a bit of work. someone has lowered it at some point ( not very well) looks lower on the drivers side than passenger side so going to change springs. Looking for advice on how much to lower it and which springs to buy, dont want it slammed to the deck, was thinking maybe about 1" from standard set up also would it be worthwhile changing shocks as well? lower it 60 front and 40 rear . or you could bye adjustable kit for it
