I need to do my rear valance as it looks crap .
Has like 3 types of paint/primers/antichip paints...
what is the best start: paint remover(striper) or old sandpaper until my I don't feel my hands?
I also need the time frames from zinc primer to primer to paint and laquer if possible?
I want to get a smooth finish not the original bubbly one so I might have to use the yellow filling primer but I need to know when is that to be applied. Also If I need to fill some bits with filler is that after the zinc primer or before?
Sorry but i'm the most novice DIY painter in the world...
Thanks

Are you talking about the car in your Sig? If so isnt the rear valance covered by the bumper bar?
Since you are not stating what is wrong with the current finish on the valance I assume you would just like to remove the "textured" finish on it.. The textured finish is called chip or stone guard depending on brand.. Now you can either sand down the chip guard until its a uniform finish however you will still end up with a line where the chip guard finishes. You will have to sand out the line aswell.. Then reprime the repaired area and sand.. Then paint your desired colour over the top.
Or you can paint strip the entire panel and start again..
To be honest painting is not really a DIY part of the car, it is best to leave it to a pro if you want it to look good.

ok sorry for not being clear
this is my rear valance at the moment

and this is the front valance I did by myself

as you can see in this two pictures a small finer texture of the stoneguard is still on on the front one...but is all new and white

the good thing about the front one that I did was that was not to rusty and was only the original paint I had to sand and repaint
the bad point about the rear one is that has rust and 3-5 types of paint
thank you

Get some prepsol or wax and grease remover and clean it off... If that does not work try some degreaser mixed with kerosene... The black stuff is just soot from the exhaust and I would not be painting it because of that... It would also probably polish off.

Painting your rear valance is a pretty easy process that just takes a lot of time and patience. But anytime you paint something you never want to rush into it.
Supplies needed are Rubbing Alcohol, 800 grit wet or dry sandpaper, Blue painters tape, Dupli-Color primer, Dupli-Color flat-black body paint, Plenty of old newspaper.
Step 1
Before you go ahead to paint your rear valance you want to make sure the weather is pretty warm, you do NOT want to paint in the cold. Also make sure you are in a low-dust area..the last thing you want is for dust to get caught onto the paint before it fully dries. The 1st thing you want to do is completely clean the whole area with rubbing alcohol, you do not want to be working w/ a dirty-surface.
Step 2
You want to tape off the valance on your rear bumper first. This is where the blue painters tape comes in handy. Take your time to get the lines as perfect as possible.
Step 3
Wet sand the area with the 800grit sandpaper. You will get a white, milk type mix of water as you sand the area. You do not want to sand too much off just enough that will give you a even, smooth surface to paint on.Wipe the water off the bumper and once again clean the area with rubbing alcohol.
Step 4
Completely cover the whole rear bumper with old newspaper. You definitely do not want to risk any type of over-spray or else you’ll have to pull out the clay-bar.
Step 5
Now with the area completely masked off spray primer onto the valance.Allow the primer to dry(which mind you will not take long what so ever.)Once again wetsand the area that you just sprayed primer onto.Dry and clean the area and go onto the next step.
Step 6
Spray an even coat of paint on the valance so that the whole area is covered in black. Give it about 30min or so before spraying another coat. Do not spray too much or it will begin to drip and you would most likely have to start all over again and i dont think you want to do that.
Step 7
Spray 4 or 5 coats of paint total with 30min between each coat. After the last coat has been sprayed wait about 3 hours before you drive the car anywhere, you want to make sure the paint has had enough time to fully dry. Also wait a while for it to dry before you pull the tape and newspaper away. You don’t want to screw up an edge while pulling it away.
Good Luck

Thanks guys
question left:
there are some areas that needs to be looked after (rusty spots) should I:
clean
sandpaper
treat the rust
clean with white spirit
zinc primer
filler primer
sandpaper 1200 wet
clean with white spirit
white primer
1500 sandpaper
white spirit
paint
laquer the area?
Is that the way to do it?

1500 is to smooth on metalics you finish with 1200 so you dont get sandpaper marks in the clear.

here is how i done mine after i had repaired the rusty towing eye
Cleaned with stiff brush, then using some rough sand paper keyed the surface. then i painted the black and white bit
still looks mint a year on
got the front to do next before the pod
Started off just going to spray the area that had new metal welded into it but the old paint was awfull

So i masked the lot off and started painting, This is half way through

White bit done

Doing black bit

After

i used genuine bmw rattle cans for it, the bumper was dirty hence why it looks a slightly different shade
