Are the Touring rear speaker pods fairly effective? Is the wadding inside original or necessary?

Mine has still got the Nokia tweeters and some 4" pioneers which are slightly too deep for the pods. Are there any particular brands/models which are a good fit?

I've been having a tinker cleaning the old bus and i discovered the passenger side rear speakers weren't even plugged in. Turns out they're not too bad, its actually the fronts that need attention more urgently!

I do have a new question though which is, does the foam on the inside of speaker covers serve any purpose? I ripped a bit so decided to get rid completely and give them a good clean. Should i just leave them without any?

Ok, I'll see how it sounds without when i get everything back together.

If necessary, I'll find a replacement at a later date. :)
