So basically I want a decent way to control my iPod without having to use the iPod itself and have cables trailing down the dash. So what I was thinking was maybe a smallish screen that showed basically what the iPod does, that then plays the iPod through the head unit/straight to the amp as usual. Don't really need/want a head unit but if it makes it easier then fine.

Anyone got any ideas/solutions for this?

Edit: I know there are iPod compatible head units out there that do this, but from experience it's such a pain to scroll through artists on a one line screen, particularly annoying when you have an artists list into the hundreds...

some of the newer headunits are superb, even with a single line of text.

i bought the mrs a pretty basic alpine with ipod control 18 months or so back, and it really is lightning quick scrolling through the menus, it feels every bit as quick as scrolling on the ipod itself.

certainly a lot better than most were even a couple of years back.
cheers,

harry

I want one that is a bluetooth headunit and will also let me stream music via bluetooth as I have Iphone. I always just put my songs on random and flick forward if I dont want to listen to one anyway so not bothered about search functionality. Suggestions people?

Sorry to OP for thread hijack

isn't streaming via bluetooth going to drain the already limited battery pretty quickly, so you'll end up needing to plug it in anyway?

Quite probably, but I never really drive that far anyway! As it stands, my car hasnt moved for about 5 weeks anyway (Note to self: Dont bother to get your mechanic to do your car, in his own time for mates rates if you want it done fast)
