Keep an eye out on the VW forums and wheel whores etc, there are quite a few different wheels to choose from. Borbets are my fave wheels ever but they hold their money well (and even for strong money you can still end up with a set that are worth half their cost in the amount of lead stuck on the inner dish!)

There are also wheels by Brock, Enzo, Mim, Powertech, RH, ATS to name but a few. Many of these are available in the same offsets as Borbet A and some have as much dish.

EDIT - just typed all of that and assumed that you aren't looking to buy new?

Can't help with the lowering, sorry. I have only just started on my E30, the first task was losing the 18's in favour of some 7.5/9x16's. Seems that although the car isn't std ride height I have a certain amount of rake so am off to look into lowering solutions myself.

My touring had a 60mm drop and was fine, however my brothers convertible (on the same wheels) would rub when it had 60mm so he had to raise the rear to 40mm drop. If you can roll your arches a bit then you should be able to do 60mm without a problem.
