Alpine CDE 102ri & iphone problems

I have an Alpine CDE 102ri headunit which should work with the iphone 3g (thats why i bought it) It worked fine up until apple updated the iphone to software version 3 some time ago and since then its been pretty tempremental! Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't and either displays a message about airplane mode and just wont connect or wont connect at all and displays an error 01 message on the headunit. There doesn't seen to be any logical reason why sometimes it works and sometime it doesn't! I took it back to the shop i bought it from and the guy tried 2 other iphones and they sometimes worked sometimes didn't and couldn't really help me. I also phoned Alpine to see if they have a fix but they weren't very helpful and blamed apple for upgrading their soeftware.

Has anybody else had this problem or know of anything i can try to fix it? So annoying having a pretty descent system in the car and no music to play on it!
