My touring has the crappy standard speakers. The rear has that huge cover and a piddly little speaker underneath. What size can i get in the back without having to cut anything away and what make do you recommend?

4" is the factory fit size. i wouldnt worry too m ucg about what you fit there as you sit in the front and thats where you want the best sound.

get some decent 5.25" speakers up front , maybe a component set and buy some decent 4" coaxials for the back and rear fill

you cant go wront with the likes of alpine infinity JBL ( the JBL's can be a but tinny and have hyper active tweeter)

I agree with Kos here - components or coaxials in the front with an amplifier powering them ideally.

Running 4" 2-way coaxial speakers in the back, adding maybe a subwoofer in a box, is another way to avoid cutting anything to fit rear speakers.

or 6x9s in boxes from eBay - also driven by the amplifier (people don't always like 6X9s but they work OK set up as mini subs) and forget the standard speakers.

The only prob with the touring rear speakers are that you cant go for anything with a large magnet, i kept the original blaupunkt speakers and added some tweeters made a huge difference.

Prob won't bother with rears in my touring when it's sorted!!
Got standard ones still in the rear at the mo with amp'd 5.25 coax's in the front (dls left and rainbow right!! Lol!!) - just faded it forward a bit so the rears are slightly audible for people in the back, but don't get pushed to hard by the h/u!!
Don't sound too bad, considering there's still naff all interior and none of it's fitted properly!!! But not really that bassy for having a pair of 12's thrown in the back!!!!!!!
