Hiya guys,

Looking for a set of coilovers for a 320i. They will be used for stance and stance only, car will hardly be driven if I'm honest. I used some hot-tuning one's on my Mk3 Golf last time round and it sat like this...

I'm going to go for a similar stance on the 320, if I can or if it's even possible.

I've probably got about £700 to play with and want them ASAP.

What issues will I come across with camber? positive or negative, to be honest I'll probably feed it some negative anyway but of course, too much is a killer.

Any help is massively appreciated. Already used the search too but found nothing I wanted to hear.

Thanks, Orrin.

Sure it's possible to get the car sit LOW, especially if it won't be driven much.

Lowering the car will increase camber and toe-in both in the front and in the rear, but especially in the rear.

Biggest problem will be the front axle, because when you lower the car a lot the tires will hit:

a) wheel arches
b) body
c) strut tower

and also the geometry will be totally fucked up to be honest :)

But, if it's more like "all show, no go" car then there isn't a problem.

Here's pic of my cabrio, 285mm from rim center to wheel arch in front and in the rear. Daily driven in the summer..

If you're lowering it you will add some negative anway and toe, if you wish to add more/less camber at the front then you will need adjustable front topmounts.

I'd highly recommend getting the cars geo done after fitting

As I mentioned on another thread, I will have a new kit designed towards road/trackday cars to go alongside full race avaliable at the end of the week. I'll also be offering rose jointed topmounts front and rear.

Will be doing a tasty launch promo for the zone too ;)

Hey no worries, I completely agree!

Jimmy, I will keep my eyes peeled for your deals then ;)

Also what's the crack with this 45mm & 51mm strut? I'm assuming it's going to be better for me to upgrade to a 51mm strut? Assuming again that the ones on my car are a 45, I'll have to check when I pick it up tomorrow!

It's a 1984 320i if anyone can save me the hassle of having to check :)

Jonsku, you have a PM :)

Thank you very much :)

Is it worthwhile me upgrading then? Do I just need struts and hubs?

....Wow it's been a while since I was asking questions...

Yes it is worth upgrading, you will probably have rear drums and not discs too.

Why not fit a 2.5 engine in there too whilst your at it? :P

Find/buy a knackered (bodywise) 325 and swap the suspension and engine over 8)

most e30 coilovers need a set in exchange to modify, so might be worth keeping your stock stuff on there at the moment and sending some 51mm struts in as the exchange units for your new coilovers.

you can't really get cheap coilovers for the e30 as the front stub axel / hub carrier etc is all welded in one piece to the strut, bit of a pain tbh.
cheers,

harry
