Has anyone tried to get 6.5" ers in the front kick-wells in a 325i cab? I want to use the exisiting kick panels if possible, happy to cut bits etc.

If so, what model speakers? I have my eyes (and ears) on some focals, just want some confidence that they should fit before I order...

I guess I will also need some wing mirror tweeter pods - PM me if you have some.

Thanks in advance

I thought i would check before randomly replying without really knowing what is possible. you most certainly cannot get 6x9's in the footwells without major modification. I assume you do not want to modify a great deal and only wish to use ''standard tools'' also note my cab is a LHD - but should be similar to yours

the speakers you see below are 6in or 15cm, this is measured accros the outer rim of the speaker housing - not the cone itself. (the standard speakers are 13cm or 5 1/4 IIRC). As you can see i had to cut away the original grill effect, as the speaker was now external to the original hole they hit the bonnet catch. so i made some simple wooden spacers and extended the bolts to space the bonnet catch out enough to get the speaker in. you can also see i needed to cut away some of the trim parts - this was all done with a stanley knife.

the depth of the speaker must be limited but i found no problems with mine, they are Clarion for info and sound quite good - but to be honest most speakers sound good if played through a decent amp, not the head unit.

hope this helps..

Mr LEE , mine are fitted flush so there was no modding to be done to te bonnet release or glove box.

thats possible but mine has magnets too big to fit flush, thus this way the only way!!

to mod the bonnet lever i used a piece of wood with a hole drilled in it!!

I'll take some tomorrow for you.
They are components, with the tweeters tucked up on top of the A pillar.

looking at ians work my mod may be difficult with your RHD cars as the glovebox may foul the modified bonnet release handle, on LHD its simply a case of cutting the understeering wheel cardboard cover, clearly this cannot be done with the glovebox.

However what is clear is the speakers fit!!
