Received this headlight film from ebay today, the seller is flyeyeskit, and for 12.99 you get enough film to do probably 2 sets of front lights.

The film itself looks kind of wierd when you see the roll, as its perforated unlike normal tinting film, but i was really happy with it once applied and its certainly easier than dismantling your lights and cutting out crosshairs etc...

Anyway, thought people might be interested in this stuff so i took a few snaps while fitting it - enjoy :)

Funny looking stuff when you open it

Removed grill halves and then removed the metal rings that are clipped round the lenses. Sanded these down with some 100grit paper and sprayed black. (Also did my grilles and kidney grille  )

Image
Peel the film from its backing and apply a generous square over the lens, gently applying heat with a hairdryer. This allows the material to stretch and fit the contour of the lens without creases. You dont get air bubbles with this stuff as its perforated.

This pic taken just before shows the difference between smoked/unsmoked nicely :)

Heat both lenses with the hairdryer for about 30 sec to 1 minute to cure the adhesive. Refitted the (now black) surrounds. Now ready to re-fit painted grilles...

One set of smoked lights and tidy new front end!

Seems a really good solution and doesnt appear to have affected the light output or beam pattern. Also, if you dont like it you can always heat it up and remove it with no damage to your lights, result. :D

Nice one. I've often thought that a red perforated film might be the answer for rear light clusters since it would allow the yellow indicators to show when flashing, but give an overall red appearance. Didn't stop to think whether such a product might exist. Did you use the No 1 tint for smoking your lights or a lighter shade?

how can any product that reduces the output of your headlights possibly be a good thing?
They don't look as good as smoked hellas and are dangerous! I guess they block 50% of the light output?

That looks quite interesting,
Reading their ebay advert I suppose that 1 sheet would, on an E30, cover all lights, (front, back & sides)
I think I'd still like to see it "in the flesh" first though !!
