Anyone have a stereo with an iPhone or iPod connector, or any recommendations?

i always rave about Alpine headunits i love them, always seem to have a good spec and are good easy units to use.

the spec of the unit must state iphone. if it doesnt it will switch it to airplane mode which means no signal for calls etc etc. however, if it does have a earphone jack input you can connect and it will all work. thats how ive done it.

Hi guys... funny to do this as a first post but I don't have an e30 so I didn't feel an intro was warranted. (My friend just bought one and I like messing with cars and looking at the part prices and stuff, vdubber myself)
Anyway, I've got an interesting iPod solution in my car. I have my speakers amped, you then run an iPod RCA cable straight to the amp with an FM transmitter somewhere in the middle and you have a stereo with no headunit all controlled from your iPod.

I have a really old Alpine unit and i use my iphone via a plug that converts the AI net changer plug in to phonos which allows me to use a normal headphone jack to link up to my iphone
Did that make any sence?

I put a new alpine one in the mrs car, it's one of their most basic units at just over £ 100, but it looks great and works perfectly. The high speed iPod connection is every bit as quick as using the iPod itself. Works with the latest nano and iphone's which don't support 12v charging too unlike a lot of other iPod controll hu's. Cde102 rings a bell.
cheers,
harry

just installed an Alpine 9887, its expensive but full Ipod control from the Head unit, so you can brouse songs/albums etc from the head unit, the ipod sits in the glovebox - bigger bonus it is charges too, so when you get to where you are going the pod is charged!!

Thanks for the info guys, although I'm still no closer to getting anything. I'm thinking of just a attachment type thing at the minute till I settle on a full set up, as I'm wanting to do the whole shebang in one go

I've have just installed an Alpine iDA-X300 and am well pleased with the results. I am not a doof master so only running 5 1/4 front and rear with front tweeters but it sounds great. The full iPod control is great - can tuck the iPod away in the glove box and it is charged as well. Oh, and they are very reasonably priced.

Got an Alpine ida-X100 installed in mine, works perfect with the iphone 3G. Charges, mutes stereo when calls come in and I can browse ipod library from the Alpine headunit. This is a godsend compared to the Blaupunkt CD43 and Dension unit I was using last year. Can't recommend it enough really, wired the iphone cable along the handbrake handle and my iphone sits in between the 2 front seats - best location if you want to take calls in speaker mode.
