Although it is by no means noisy, I'd like to improve on the sound deadening in my car at some stage. Engine noise intrusion is at worst low and muffled except at high revs, so the main area for attention is from the rear - exhaust etc. My thoughts are: adding sound proofing to underneath the rear seat bench, rear seat backs and possibly the boot lid. Does this seem sensible? I've come across this and wondered whether it would do the job.

did a complete sound proofing of my 320i
Used black bitumen sound proof pads from Ebay (3 packs) and 100mm wide weather sealing tape from B & Q (2 rolls)
Best done in warm weather and wash down panels with thiners first.
Stick the stuff everywhere and seal any holes in the bulkhead (scutle)to the engine bay.
Back of back seat really helps as does covers over petrol pump under seat
Spray inside doors with underseal.
Put in extra foam or underlay under carpets and seats
Pads behind standard speakers help
Now put back all the trim and listen to --- nothing!
(Until you hit 4500 RPM then bliss)
the extra weight is next to bugger all and its well worth it if you have the interior out
