Morning Peeps!!
So I've got the carpet out of the cab and am cracking on with the wiring for the sounds. I popped the stereo out last night to find that the wires behind have been butchered, the guy who wires it up has cut the block connector off at both ends (Car and HU) and wired the stereo and car loom directly into each other, This wouldn't be a problem unless I wanted to change the stereo so what I plan to do is wire in the origional block connector so Head Units can be easily changed simply just plug and play.
My question is does anyone have a colour chart for the stereo wiring to make my life easier to identify which wire is which? for example
Blue - Remote
Black - Earth
Red - Live
Etc
Thanks
Wiring...

standard stereo end of the BMW loom should be
green/red - permanant live
Purple/white - switched live with ignition
Brown - ground
red/white - signal from lights on for headunit dimmer if fitted (this goes to 12V when the lights are switched on)
White (not connected to the above loom) is the signal to lift/lower the electric ariel
speakers blue/black and blue/brown are right rear
yel/black and yel/brown are left rear
blue/red and blue/black are front right
yel/red and yel/black are left front
hope that helps!!

the memory wire to your head unit will be the permanant live, you should have from the HU a switched live which you attach to the purple/white and a permanant live to the red/green. Normally the switched live in most head units will be the one with the fuse.

You're probaby right there fella.
Another question, I've wired 3 sets of RCA cables, a remote and two lengths of speaker cable down one side all running together and a power cable along the other side of the car. Will having the all the speaker and RCA cable together cause a problem??
Cheers

No it will not, RCA leads are shielded any way, so as long as you earth on the head unit and amplifier are good, so will the RCA shielding. It is normally recommended to seperate power cables and signal cables, this is really applicable to older cars where the noise generated from the HT leads/alternator diode pack ect were noisy enough to send noise signals through the general power leads. - but its good practice. running the signal lead will not affect anything and the speaker leads only will have low voltages and power so they will not affect anything.
For info i find best place to run RCA leads is along the transmission tunnel, i.e. under the gearlevel surround and handbreak ashtray, under the carpet and under the rear seat in the centre -as there are no other power leads around there.
