Head unit recommendations

Mine got stolen a couple of weeks ago. Bastards!

I had a Kenwood KDC-7024 which I liked and disliked at the same time. Good points - the volume wheel did the volume only! I hate it on some (esp. some sonys) where you hit the volume wheel too hard in a bit of a rush and it bloody decides to change the bass or whatever. Very easy to use, a few buttons and it did exactly what i wanted. Bad reasons - half the screen was wasted by a stupid animated flashing display that could be turned off leaving half the display blank. The other slightly tacky thing is that it came out and flipped down making it double DIN size giving it a big display and decent size buttons.

These are really cheap on egay so might get another. Anyone recommend an alternative?

Preferably one with an aux input on the rear, sub/amp output and black. No shiny silver chrome ones please! (however if its cheap I don't mind showing it the rattle can).

alpine get my vote, paid £500 for mine 6 years ago and its still going strong and still looks good , cracking sound even with the standard e36 speakers

as above alpind have some good stereos at the moment, xda 300 is a bargain

I have the Alpine X001 ipod dedicated head unit! If you have an ipod dont consider anything else! But leave it on shuffle if you do as trying to find anything in particular is 10 times as distracting as writing a text!

you mean alpine idax300? That looks quite good, know if the illumination colour can be changed?
