I had this problem on a previous nak and I seem to remember some sort of reset button needed to be pressed before it would work normally - or am I thinking of some other make?

I'm in the process of installing a CD-400 (secondhand), when I power it up I can hear the cd mech working but I cannot get the damn thing to switch on.
