i am looking for ideas and pics for fitting a sub in the sport i just bought, probably 10inch but maybe 12, i will fit it in a ported box of a size to be determined (by speaker specs) but my car does NOT have the rear centre armrest. i have no problems removing the ski hatch panel but dont want to cut the seat, so i am looking for ideas suggestions on where to go with this. will be looking at a JBL/Alpine or kicker sub and GTO/Infinity/Alpine amp (because thats all thats easily available out here)
so far the plan is Alpine 9887 Head unit (already purchased)which has three pre-outs
6x9 5 way pioneers (a pair knocking about the house) in rear parcel shelf run from amp of about 200-250W amp will be in the boot, I have a 200W Xplod amp that will do for starters
5 1/4 inch 3 way in the front run from an amp of about 200W
so suggestion and pics for the sub please. note - i will not cut anything except the rear parcel shelfand metal ski hatch cover!! building the sub enclosure is not a problem.
cheers all

you will have to cut the rear metal shelf to take the 6x9 as the magnet will hit. ski hatch comes out easy.
for a sub i will go with any of these:
Jbl W12GTI
12" alpine type-r

Kicker L5

kicker L7

If your feeling rich either one of these:
Diamond HP12 HEX PRO - £525

orion hcca 12.2 - £230

i had 2x w12gti's in my e30 and it pounded like mad boxed tuned to 45hz

no, i have fitted 6x9's in my last tin top, i cut the parcel shelf to fit the speaker, then raised the 6x9's on mdf platforms fixed the speakers to the mdf and the mdf to the metal rear shelf. i then trimmed the parcel shelf to fit and glued that on top of the mdf. only problem was it left the speakers quite visible, a security issue in Uk for fortunately not here.
cheers for sub advise i will check which models they have here. the alpine sub only seemed to be 10inch and we are not spoilt for choice here so its a case of take whats available or wait weeks for a mail order. the only DVC subs i have seen are JVC and a mate has one in his truck which seems to take a good deal of abuse. plan would be to find a DVC and an amp that can handle the lower inpedance.
mainly i am looking for sub box designs to get me started and peoples experience with subs but no rear arm rest to fold down. i was considereing running the port under the seat back if i can squeeze it inbetween the base foam and seat back but i am unsure how it would sound with the port firing into the cabin but speaker effectively muffled by the seat foam.

well heres 2 poor phone videos my mate took of my subs wen being tested out, the box was made from cheap 12mm mdf before it was cut out of 22mm. subs were under powered by 200watts rms each and the amp was only getting 120amps from an booster(big red thing in video) as the engine was be done.
the subs have been removed and installed in a new box with more powerful amp in an peugeot 306.

I have a single 10" sub in a box in my boot, no pictures sorry.
I have not cut out the ski hatch or made any modifications to the parcel shelf and tbh I get plenty of bass in the passenger compartment.
My thinking was that if the boot is sealed would it not also act in the same way as a sub enclosure??

yes it will but you will need subs that are designed to run in Free-Air and can be mounted in skil hatch if its a 10" sub. but i found that desent amped 6x9 on the rear shelf will give loads bass to fill the cabin.

Here's the setup i had in my old 2door...
I used standard size speakers...replaced all 4 with new one's (infinity) and also had 4 tweeters (all running off crossovers), and for bass i had 2 x 15" Vibe subs, but had the wiring in such a way that i could drop in 2 more 15" subs
It didn't look all that good (wanted everything as hidden as possible) but sounded awesome.

Light adjuster replaced with the bass control

Note the tweeter behind the seat belts..

With all 4 subs in...2 facing into the car, and the other 2 can face up or towards the back lights.

Not a great pic, but this is how i had them normally...facing into the car...

I didn't use it with 4 very often though, usually only had 2 15's in there.
The box's were made to the exact spec for the subs, and was just a case of unplugging the cables and lifting out. The one facing into the car would wedge under the rear parcel shelf so wouldn't slide about or anything when i had just the 2 in.
With the 4subs in it rattled like no-one's business, but with the 2 in there (especially when facing into the car) there wasn't that much rattle (just the number plate). The car only cost me £150 and was just bought to fill a gap between cars so i didn't want to spend money on dynamatting it.
I have the option of fitting the same system in my touring (currently just running 2 15's, but never got round to doing it. Might test it out before i sell it to see how it sounds/how much it rattles.
