was very tempted to buy one for my hilux but never did. They seem to have absolutely everything in terms of spec... But what do you do if it breaks? Do you post it back to god-knows-where to get it fixed? I would like to think they're ok and would like to get one so will be watching this thread with interest...

I have 2. I in my brothers cabby and one in my touring. Mine looks slightly different but is essentially the same thing.
They work fine, and if you hook up a digital freeview box and a decent aerial you can watch digital TV on the move aswell.
Worked fine for us.
For the money I'd recommend them.
If they do go wrong, then it depends if you buy from a UK seller, in which case you send them back to the UK site or if you buy from abroad then you have to ship them abroad for repairs. But to be honest, they don't go wrong if you use them properly.

I did yes, if you can get hold of a left hand drive dash section (bit where the tape goes is all you need) then you won't need to cut the stalk.
Doesn't make any difference to the indicator, and if you're fussy you can always pick replacement stalks off ebay for about £10.

Do you mean the rear headrest monitors? They cost me about £100 but they be replaced soon with higher spec one's (higher resolution 1440 x 234). The current one's are 7" and they'll be replaced with 7" as i've found that the larger one's picture quality isn't very good. They also look odd with the E30 seats as the head-rest looks too big.H7AVY wrote:How much did the screens cost you? to buy and fit? wa inch are they?
The head-units can be found on ebay for around £200 - £240 delivered.
The screens vary from £100 - £240 on ebay depending on how good you want the picture quality to be, and whether you're fussy about each individual player being able to support DivX.

The screens come fitted in headrests, I wouldn't want to start cutting original headrests if I could avoid it.H7AVY wrote:Hmmm cool you can't fit these into E30 headrests can you?

Not really added it up....including wiring, Amps, subs, speakers, head-unit, head-rests, digital freeview, digital aerial, and alot of other bits and bobs, I'm probably looking at between £1000-£1500. I'm using parts from an Install i did a few years ago, and I spent £350 just on wiring for that Install, so I'm making sure i get my money's worth out of it. It's not finished yet either, but then it's never finished once you start with ICE.
I'm concentrating on other things for now, and hopefully i'll finish the ICE off one day LOL!

If you're only running one of them, then you should be okay, just make sure that you use 0 AWG wire for the power and earth and you should be okay (unless you have a 316/318 as i'm not sure if the alternators upto it on those). IF you can get a alternator split charger and add a seperate battery for the ICE it's always best.
What are you putting that into? I wouldn't bother with a cab, and even a coupe will suffer alot from vibration, and most of the bass will be lost before it gets into the cabin...hence why i bought a touring
Best sound you can get will be in a touring. Also, what box will you be putting them into? That'll make as big a difference as what amp or sub you use. A good box can make even the worst of subs/amps combo sound good, and vice versa, a bad box can make the best sound crap.
I created a full Vibe install a few years ago consisting of 4 x 15" subs running off the VP4 amp. Was running at around 1200rms (not alot I know) but with 60" of excursion it shook you to the core. It used to hurt when you breathed it was so extreme. Never got round to measuring how loud it was, but must've been pretty loud. My mates used to say I would shake their floor boards and windows in their houses's when i was still 1 block away!
I've still got all the subs, and I may put all 4 15" subs into the touring one day to see how it sounds, but i need to get a load of stuff first, as I sold most of the equipment i was using when i was running that system.
Not so insanely mad about bass these days, more into multimedia and gadgets now, but when Eid comes round, it's always good to have some bass to blast out.

Firstly, I really wouldn't bother in a cab...my brother has them in his and the boot just rattles, if you keep it low, then it's bearable, but as soon as you turn it up, it'll rattle so much it's embarrasing. With the power that subs going to be putting out, you'll end up shattering your boot! That and the fact you probably won't be able to build a good enough box as the boot is really shallow due to the roof, and therefore will impact the shape and capacity of the box.
0AWG wire can be found for between £10-30/metre, and depending on where your battery is, will determine how much you need. The seperate battery is wired in by fitting an 'Alternator Split charger' unit, which basically splits the charge from the alternator, so you can send the power straight to the ICE battery, and therefore the car battery isn't used at all.

Hmmm where can you buy a 'Alternator split charger' from and how hard is it to fit dont want to cock anything up. Would it help if i fit in some sound proofing or am i being stupid lol ?

You can get the split chargers off ebay, do a search.
To be honest, no amount of sound proofing will really get you good sound in a cab as there are no gaps for the sound to come through. In the 2door/4door you can then again cut the ski hatch out, but the cab doesn't have anything like that.
If you want bass, get a touring. A convertible doesn't need bass, get some quality speaker/components in there, and that'll do.
