Well I finally finished my install, I wanted the system to be easily removed and didn’t want to drill or cut any holes in the standard trim as parts for Touring’s are hard to replace (they only sold a few Tourings in NZ) and I also wanted to keep the luggage area usable.

I ended up with a Pioneer DEH-P895BT head unit with Hands free Bluetooth phone and IPod control.

As far as features this economical head deck is great but in terms of user friendliness and basic menu navigation it is horrible, the centre drive button controls a whole host of basic functions and is absolutely useless when driving as bumps will have you skipping tracks when trying to perform other basic functions. I needed the CD-I200 cable to have full I pod control witch the sting you a few more bob for.

Image

On the upside it sits nicely in the dash unlike the model up from it witch stuck out like the dogs bollocks.
Painted the surround black to match.

Being restricted to the factory mount point I went with TS-C131PRS Component speaker system, the 13cm woofer sounds amazing for their size and the tweeters are defining.
Problems faced were the crossover unit’s size and the Woofers restricting the interior light pin switch from working properly as the magnets were so huge.
If I were to do it again I would go for a 16cm woofer and door mount them for better mid range.

Image

In the back I utilised the factory enclosures and mounted a pair TS-E1076 10cm 2 ways for a bit of mid range and some rear vocal. These were the biggest surprise for me as mounted in the factory enclosure and amped they do a fantastic job.

Image

I ran all these speakers off a GM-6300 4 channel amplifier mounted in the rear storage side box.

For some bass we used a Kicker Solo Baric L7 10inch sub mounted in a semi compact custom box with port and easy to disconnect speaker cables. This little 10 inch defies logic and produces lots of noise.  We mounted the Kicker SX651 amplifier up in side storage box behind the Jack and first aid kit.

You could build a much better system than this but this is a great solution if space is precious and you don’t want to hack anything up. ThanksPS: I posted this up in hope it might help someone wanting to do something similar, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask.

Also thanks for the how 2's E30ZONE! was a big help.

looks good :D nice colour match on the sub box too :D
have you thought about spare wheel access? if you cut the board on the underside of the boot carpet / boarding jobbie, you could hinge it up sideways to get in there without having to haul the sub out and dump it on the floor... you know you'll get a pucture in a storm if you don't winkeye

what's with the rather furry drivers seat though? 8O :D

oh, can you edit your post and hit return before and after each pic to split them up, i've been scrolling left and right for the last 5 mins to read it all! :D

Sorry about the mess guys, all cleaned up :o:

That’s a good idea about splitting the tire cover I might just have to do that!

I hate the seat cover but I hate what it covers more, seats torn to shreds.. Im looking out for a tidy set of fronts seats at the right price and im going to skin them for good fabric and recycle the head rests to the back 8)

Did you use the standard factory tweeter pods?

I just stuck them on the dash. It’s only a 320i and doesn’t come with factory tweeters, not many models do.

Im thinking about ordering some and re locating the 5”a speakers to the door as the factory mounting point is average at best.

Thanks  I used to have a TTE Lexus IS200, the plate is just a fill-in on the Touring until I find something new.

Your car is mint mate. I like subtle installs and i like all the buttons on your dash, no blanking plates anywhere!

Good job

Cheers guys! As far as I know they didn’t sell the 325i Touring in New Zealand and im sure none come with the M-Tech II kit on them, mine is genuine but is retro fit and does not have the Tech-II front bar.

Would like to slot a 2.5 litre in at some stage as the 2.0 struggles on the hills.

No blanks in the dash but the front to rear fade button no longer works obviously.

They did the 325i in all models bar the Touring, I believe they only imported a few Touring’s. There are quite a few English imports though.

The Touring didn’t make it to a lot of markets including Australia. Hence why a Touring costs double a sedan over here. Mine was 3,700 pounds.
