I've purchased the below for a much needed audio upgrade:

Genesis Profile 2-Channel

Driving Alpine DDCR17A 6.5 Components (tweeters in E30 mirror mounts)

In Audiosport Fibreglass MDF backed E30 Door Pocket Enclosures.

It's not too late to return and swap any of these - is there a better match for the speakers / amp? Has anyone tried these?

Genesis always make top quality gear, the Alpines I have never seen before. The door builds should be good, are you sure those tewwets will fit the tweeter pods. Whay headunit are you running, Alpine I presume.

Blaupunkt head unit.

Does the head unit make that much of a difference if an amp is being used?

Also, can 6.5"speakers be used in the footwell without cutting any metal?

5 1/4" is the biggest you can use in the standard foot well holes.

5 1/4" is the biggest you can use in the standard foot well holes.
It can be done, with a baffle ring. I think ian332isport has done this with pics on a thread somewhere.

very good combination.... the profile range is the basic in genisis but still good. the dd speakers again very very good speakers top of the range a few years back, only thing is the xovers are quite big so finding a place for them might be a bit difficult. also the mids are quite big check the mounting depth.

Head unit makes a big difference to sound quality, i bought an lg unit from halfrauds a few months ago and was quite pleased with the sound quality until it started spitting the cd out when it felt like it and switching itself off, at which point i returned it to find they stopped selling them so they offered me a sony xplod in its place the music quality difference with the same amp and speakers was very surprising to say the least 8O
